More to Shonen then meets the eye!! (or ear...)

Hello manga fans, old and new!!

Tired of people recommending the same old titles like One piece, Bleach or Naruto when you ask them about good Shonen to read? Sick of finding no good feedback on anything but books that have been out for ages and/or long over instead of something more current? Well have to fear - your friendly neighbourhood ComicAddicts are here!

To remedy this reprehensible situation our team has debated and finally made a shortlist which we now present to you, of five currently ongoing shonen manga (in no particular order) that you might want to try out:

Blue Exorcist
The Son of Satan takes the fight to Satan by deciding to become an exorcist. Of course in typical shonen fashion he isn’t a very good exorcist, but he has plenty of raw power that he would need to control and master to be able to beat Satan! Varies from good to awesome, but the awesome is definitely pure awesome.

Fairy Tail
Think Naruto. Only instead of Ninjas we have Magicians. Instead of ninja states, we have magic guilds. Instead of missions we have tasks. But we have the same archetype for the protagonist : a blundering fool with a massive raw power just waiting to burst out. Sound like fun yet? If you love Naruto, you would fall in love with this one.

Bloody Monday
Just read one volume of this one so far and it has already climbed up to the 'must read' charts. Simply put: a story about a teenage genius+hacker who has gotten involved in an inter-continental terrorist group that plans to use a deadly virus to attack major cities of the world. Can’t wait to see how this series pans out - already giving us Death Note vibes!

Soul Eater
Kill ninety-nine evil humans and one witch to turn your weapon into a “Death Scythe” , a weapon capable of being wielded and used by Shinigami. But what do you do if your weapons don’t want to go along with your plan? Oh and there's a teacher called “Franken Stein”, a sword called “Ragnarok”, villains called “Medusa” and “Arachne” and two guns that transform into hot girls. It’s a mad, mad romp through the world that Atsushi Ōkubo has created. Simply too much fun!

Bakuman
This is a manga which is consistently at the top of our reading list. A manga about creating manga. This tells the story of two young school students who want to become mangaka's and get their own Anime series. What follows is an in depth look at the manga publishing industry through their eyes, their battles with other mangaka’s to maintain the ranking of their Manga and their continuous hard work to get better and better. By the creators of the epically awesome Death Note, this series is a departure from that - sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes funny, sometimes insightful but always a pure joy to read. In our humble views: A MUST read !!

Well there you have it folks, hope this helps in your journey along the manga highway and aids your discovery of the diamonds in the rough.
