Pages of Madness

Something wicked, this way comes.

Fair warning dear readers, this one is not for the faint of the heart. Content wise its really far out. And those of you who consider themselves Peter Pan fanboys might wanna give this a pass. But on the other hand, if you, like me, were drawn into the mythos of Peter Pan, yet could tell something was off in the story and are hooked to reading something twisted... Then boy do I have a story for you!
Wendy is an experimental manga from the get go. And it is for mature eyes only. Under-age readers you'd best wait a while.

Pe..Peter...Peter Pan?

The artwork is top-notch, the writing is brilliantly done but what catches you is the cold deconstruction of the entire Peter Pan mythology by the mangaka. Co-relating psychological disorders with fantasy stories such as Peter Pan is not a new concept. But the execution of the concept is not only unique, it is almost a work of art. The author shows this cruel harsh love to the fantasy of Peter Pan and Neverland. The place where you don't grow old. The place of happiness eternal. The place where dreams come true. I call it love for his attention to detail regarding the story is unparalleled. Yet the coldness and the harshness with which the mangaka tears the mythology apart forever for you and me, dear reader strikes a chord somewhere deep within.

The manga is very graphic in its narration. But it works, it works because the story demands it. The story demands the mad scenes of violence and depravity. Imagine a place where everything you wanted, every desire, every thought would come true. What do you think will rule in such a place? Dreams? Or Nightmares? My bet would be nightmares, and that is the smart bet. We all know of the darkness that lurks within the human heart. We need only turn on our telly's to see the consequences of our darkness played out all over the world.

And there's Hook too.

So read this manga, read it because it tells a very human story. This manga is a glorious examination of the human condition, albeit a short one. It is a polished mirror held up against any and all who read it and it reflects all of the depravities inherent in the human soul and all the greatness. Just depends on who's reading.

Prepare to be sucked into a vortex of desire, love, lust and immortality in all its forms. This one might just leave you in tears.
