Free Dark Horse motion web-comics. Gaming round-table sessions. Critical and fan favourite web-series. The best of Indie culture. A Fantasy book club. All in one place.
Got your attention? Yeah, thought it might.
I don't know how many of you out there are familiar with a lady named Felicia Day. I would say less than 50% would know here, though according to her its probably only 10%. Hopefully a lot more than I'd guess, but just in case I'm wrong:
So there you have the basics, essentially she is a geek icon - writes comics, acts in cult favourite movies and TV shows (Buffy, Eureka, etc) and is a complete gamer through and through. In fact her profile both on facebook and google+ have huge followings that reflect her diverse fan-base, recently she's even been hosting hangouts on G+ with fan.
BUT today is less about Felicia as it is to share about the website + video channel she has just launched mere days ago, titled simple Geek and Sundry.
I heard about it from her G+ news feed and now with the recent launch and all the new goodies on it I felt compelled to share it with you, my fellow geeks and comic addicts! So let me give you a rundown on what they have on offer right now.
To show support and such (and showing what a following Miss Day and her friends have) Dark Horse comics have started taking some of their amazing Indie titles and making motion comics out of them (partway between animation and still images if that helps) that they will be featuring regularly on the site and in fact have a special section just for these.
Take as a sampling, this first beautifully rendered chapter of The Secret by Dark Horse founder Mike Richardson and Eisner-nominated artist Jason Alexander.
Now I dare you to tell me that's not frikkin awesome! Now imagine your favourite Dark Horse comic being given this treatment - hell picture your favourite Hellboy comic like this! Now tell me that's not awesome. I dare you.
In addition to this, the site has plans to essentially explore the best and most fun aspects of geek and indie culture through their activities.
The Guild, the much loved mmorpg-gamer-inspired web-series that has been so popular it's now on it's fifth season now has a new home here as well. Created, written by and starring Day along with comedians Jeff Lewis and Sandeep Parikh and the rest of the Knights of Good, it's a hilarious (almost enough to bring tears at points) and clever glimpse into the lives of the really hardcore gamer guilds out there playing games like WoW and Age of Conan to name a couple.
There's also a round-table gamer chat-show of sorts led by gaming enthusiast and geek icon Wil Wheaton, a.k.a Wesley Crusher on Star Trek:TNG a.k.a Sheldon's nemesis on Big Bang Theory. According to creator/host Wheaton:
Next up! We move on to another existing web entity carried over here - but this time it's a very popular podcast that is getting a new incarnation as a video series. I'm talking about the Sword and Laser podcast which, in its new form here at G&S will feature reviews of the hottest
science fiction and fantasy books, interviews with top authors as well as hot-button topic discussions and the like:
There's all this and more for all your non-comic geeky joy, so check it out.

Felicia Day is an American actress, known for her work as "Vi" on the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and for parts in movies such as Bring It On Again and June, as well as the Internet musical, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Day is also the star, script writer and producer of the original web series The Guild, a show loosely based on her life as a gamer. She also starred in the Dragon Age Web Series; Dragon Age: Redemption (you really should check this link out!), which she wrote. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Academy of Web Television. At only 32, she is the creator and star of The Guild, an online series whose episodes have garnered over 150 million views since it began in 2007 and for which she's won two best actress Streamys as well. Oh yeah and earlier this year the Hollywood Reporter named her one of the industry’s top 50 digital power players on a list that included George Lucas.
