Hectic week so far?
Don't worry, something to brighten it up mid-week then is in order!
Now whoever you
might be, a thing of beauty is precisely that and with that spiritual
thought in mind, I have for you the second half – the top of the
top – of my list of some of the most enticing bad-ass ladies ever
on film!
Now, in case you
think I'm being sexist or you're a lady yourself and have a grouse
about it – don't. Let's be honest, men can be a lot of things but
nothing compared to a beautiful woman and every single one of these
ladies was aiming for precisely that effect and I think it would be
hypocritical of me not to honestly appreciate them.
And so, feel free to
catch up with the countdown in the first half of this list, but if
you've been waiting since last week I shall delay no more and get
right to it:
7. Milla
Jovovich as Alice in Resident Evil : Afterlife
From the first
moment I saw Milla Jovovich in the truly under-appreciated The
Fifth Element playing the kooky Leeloo, I think a
part of me was smitten for a long while – all compounded when she
continued to be the most bad-ass of the bad-asses and hands down the
best leading action lady around and Resident Evil was the one that
made her even bigger.
No-one can make
wholesale devastation and chaos as good as Milla! Period.

6. Catherine
Zeta Jones in Entrapment
There is no doubt in
anyone's mind (at least I would hope so) that this movie was the one
that pretty much MADE her career and to be honest it's been pretty
much downhill since then – except Chicago, which she got lauded for
but that was her music/dance training shining through, not her
acting.
BUT, my opinions
aside, there should be no doubt that not only does she deserve to be
here on this list but that sequence of her in the cat-suit, slowly
making her way past those lasers... I think that caused more
fractures from your jaw hitting the floor than anything in a while
and pretty much fuelled the imagination everyone who was an
adolescent back then. You know who you are!
...and having Sean
Connery in the movie was pretty awesome too...

5. Angelina
Jolie in and as Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life
One of the most
iconic beauty's of our time and arguably amongst the top of that list
for all-time, Angelina Jolie was for me the best choice to play the
also-iconic character of Lara Croft. Not only did she bring the
character to life and keep me transfixed to the screen throughout the
first movie, she looked good enough in the sequel that I didn't even
care what a pretty mediocre movie it was story-wise.
Not much to say
about it, the picture speaks for itself and thats all I got to say
about that. Go ahead, honestly argue with me. I dare you.
4. Michelle
Pfeiffer as Catwoman in Batman Returns
Now this one's a
no-brainer to belong here – at least for me!
I loved the old
Burton movies. Whatever other flaws they may have had, they
were great Batman movies and all things considered he did a brilliant
job of creating movies you could take most kids to watch but at the
same time had a dark and macabre tone to them that was not just a
great match for the Dark Knight's adventures, but it was also great
for adults like ourselves.
Nowhere was this
shown to greater effect than in his villains. I loved all three of
them, excellent and respected actors in quite uncharacteristic roles.

But the enchanting
Ms. Pfeiffer playing Selena Kyle/Catwoman was a scene stealer! She
was deadly, sultry, elegant, dirty and vulnerable all in turn and is
for me the best version of Catwoman outside certain comic versions
and the best of the non-comic versions without any doubt. Just check
out her introducing herself to the other two stars of the movie in
this scene that was so badass that it burned itself into my memory
without my even trying:

3. Kate
Beckinsale as Selene in the Underworld movies
Now THIS is how you
make a vampire movie. Seriously.
And Ms. Beckinsale
took these movies to a whole other level and her performance as
Selene is one of the most wicked action movie bad-girls I've known.
From her first moments on screen on the ledge and then jumping off it
to all the action scenes and all, she was deadly sexiness personified
in that first movie and then it just kept going with each successive
one.
Love or hate the
movies, your choice, there is no denying how good she looked and she
brought the hotness of the cat-suit to a new generation in a whole
new way and if you ask me, this is when vampires became really sexy
for the first time in a while.
With a kick-ass
movie just out and a new Underworld movie possibly on the horizon (I
really hope that the more than doubling-the-budget box-office takings
of Awakenings fed enough studio greed to let Len Weisman make
another!), we might yet get to see more of Selene on-screen!

2. Jeri Ryan
as Seven of Nine in Star Trek: Voyager
One of the lesser
known names outside circles who are familiar with Star Trek and
largely a TV actress, Ms. Ryan was the woman who made exploring the
final frontier sexy.
Portraying the
not-very-hot Borg
drone Seven-of-Nine on Voyager, my favourite of the Trek
shows, Ryan scorched the screen and the halls of the titular vessel.
I loved her portrayal of the character as she evolved from
emotionless and difficult to handle drone into a more human and
complex character – and I admit, that she looked this damn good
didn't hurt one damn bit. This was a show with darker, more ethical
and unconventional story-telling (especially as far as the clean and
crisp Star Trek franchise was concerned!) with more of an ensemble
focus than the others – or at least so I felt – and a rich and
varied cast of characters. Even in the midst of all this,
Seven-of-Nine stood out, her sheer hotness on screen making it impossible not to!
1. Shannon
Elizabeth, Eliza Dushku, Ali Larter and Jennifer Schwaldbach as
Justice, Sissy, Chrissy and Missy (respectively) in Jay & Silent
Bob Strike Back
At last! #1!!
It's not exactly a
fair winner, but seeing as this was a team of bad-girls and the whole
cat-suit thing was a team-effort I have to give the top spot to these
lovely ladies.
If you've seen
American Pie back in the day, then you know Shannon as Nadia, the
foreign exchange student that fired a whole generation of male
fantasy (well it's true, I'm not going to lie!). There's also Eliza
Dushku who is a personal favourite amongst lovely ladies and you
might remember as THE bad-girl slayer Faith from Buffy the Vampire
Slayer as well as Tru-Calling and the mind-bendingly awesome
Dollhouse. Ali Larter is the third of this group and you would most
likely know her as the split-personality superhero from the cult TV
hit Heroes and rounding out the quartet is Jennifer who... well she's
the wife of writer/director Kevin Smith who made and starred (as
Silent Bob) in this movie, but she fills out that body-suit just fine
and that was pretty much the whole point of her character anyway so
what do I care?
Here's the scene(s)
that I'm talking about that showcase all the hotness that is these
women in case you've never seen the movie – if you have a sense of
humour, love shameless geekiness and being a smart-ass then you
really should!
Well folks! There
you have it!
Hope that was as
much fun for you as it was for me – I'm fairly certain that if
you're here at the end of this list it, probably was.
Got any thoughts?
Disagree? Someone you think I missed? Feel free to let me know and
bear in mind that I've got a special surprise post related to this
list for next week so bring it on!
Cheers!
