Well it's safe to say I've never read a comic quite like this one. (And I picked this out of the 4 inaugural covers because I'm a huge Star Wars – original trilogy! – nerd...)

I should start by saying, “FANS OF ADVENTURE TIME, REJOICE!” For you see, this series is also created by Pendleton Ward, the brains behind that cult favourite series. And a pretty entertainingly bizarre creation it is indeed! We follow a teen-age interstellar/galactic super-group that is as kooky and quirky as any I've ever seen.

I've never really dabbled in Adventure Time, so this was a bit of an experiment for me and an exercise in trying out something out of my regular sphere – a good habit for anyone to have.

Earth 2 #2 (DC)

Ladies, gentlemen and other species. Welcome back to Earth 2. And boy what a welcome it is!

It’s time for a match between Holt and Sloan. “TERRIFIC?” I thought, as I saw them. So basically Earth-1’s Mr. Terrific (this is the point where you go “oh that’s what terrific meant” ) has landed up on Earth-2 by accident, and right there waiting for him is Terry Sloan. The first Mr. Terrific from Earth-1, plain ol’ smartest man here. There's fighting, Sloan wins, cut to next scene! No that’s not a spoiler.

Picking up from last issue, Jay Garrick meets Mercury. Not Max Mercury – MERCURY like the roman god. And it’s time to power up. This issue is all about the birth of the Flash.

I like and don’t like the costume at the same time. Is that possible?

Also if you didn’t already know, ALAN SCOTT IS GAY! (No it’s not a problem for me, I just felt like writing in caps since it seems to be such big news these days) We catch a glimpse of him with his boyfriend.

Week In Review: '68 Scars #1 / New Avengers #24 / Rich Johnston's Iron Muslim #1 / Saga #2 / Secret #1

'68 Scars #1 (Image Comics)

I didn’t know what the hell ’68 Scars was before I read the comic. Turns out it’s about Zombies in the year 1968, at the height of the Vietnam war.

It starts out horribly with an unfunny, politically incorrect gag. It somewhat improves afterwards.

There are three stories in this comic. Two take place in Vietnam during the height of the war, and one concerning two Chinese immigrants takes place in Chinatown, New York. All of these aren’t very good, merely passable, and one of them is absolutely awful.

Each panel is cluttered with a lot of dialogue, none of which is particularly good, with most of them falling into the category of “it gets the job done”. The art is just okay. It surely would have benefited from a better inking and colouring job. While the inking is somewhat passable, the colouring is just horrendous. Everything looks dull and bland. It tries to be gritty by borrowing the colour palette of every Vietnam movie ever, but fails miserably in that aspect. In my opinion, it would have fared better if it were a black and white comic.

Hoo boy. Let me start off by saying that Adventure Time is one of my favourites of all cartoon TV shows, nay, of all TV shows. Its mixture of bizarre action, surreal humour and the best friends anywhere, ever, makes me watch this show for hours and hours. So when I heard that it was getting a tie-in comic, I was ecstatic. I had extremely high expectations of this comic, and boy, does it deliver. Some pressing issues prevented me from reading the first issue, and so I must bring before you a review of Adventure Time #2.

The main story continues on from the first issue, with the Lich having captured Finn, Jake, Dessert Princess and Ice King inside a mysterious bag. Marceline, Bubblegum Princess and Lumpy Space Princess (boy, this comic has a LOT of royalty. Marceline's a vampire queen) are also caught during the events of this comic, and the plot deals with them trying to find their way out. There are tiny, three-panel mini-comics on the bottom of some pages, and they are hilarious. My favourite moment has to be the Ice King's pet penguin Gunter reading Ice King-penned fan-fiction.
