With
some time yet to pass for Marvel’s latest much-awaited summer event
– Avengers vs. X-Men – we here at Comic Addicts
realised that now would be a good time to start off with our
speculations and expectations from the event in the form of a series
of articles.
9)
Black Panther
Today,
we’re gonna talk about those in the ranks of Earth’s Mightiest
Heroes who, in this writer’s humble opinion, should play some
pretty big roles.
10)
Beast
As
of right now, Beast seems pretty likely to stay on team Avengers,
especially considering all his disagreements with Scott Summers over
the last few years over the direction of the latter’s leadership of
the mutants. However, what makes his position in AvX interesting is
the likelihood of at least some fraction of the Jean Grey Institute
faculty siding with their fellow mutants, as well as his recent
interaction with the now anti-Avengers Wonder Man.
With
his wife Storm more than likely to join the X-Men despite her recent
inclusion into the ranks of the Avengers, I certainly won’t be
surprised if T’Challa ends up getting involved. Possibly even on
the X-Men’s side.
8)
Ms. Marvel
Carol
Danvers certainly does have plenty of history with the X-Men, and it
should be interesting as that plays out, given her front and centre
position in the Avengers line-up. Also, a fight between her and Rogue
should be entertaining.
7)
Hulk
Despite
the fact that Hulk has not been part of an Avengers roster since the
first arc of Dan Slott’s Mighty Avengers, the fact that he plays a
major role in the upcoming Avengers film should land him with a
high-impact role in AvX. In the wise words of Marvel EiC Axel Alonso,
“You didn’t think he was gonna sit this one out, did you?”
6)
Iron Fist
It
has been stated in interviews that Iron Fist is going to play a big
role in AvX, and the recent tie-in cover reveals have not
disappointed in that regard. The information we currently have is of
some sort of connection between Kun’Lun and the Phoenix, which
leads Rand to help Hope in whatever situation she may find herself.
5)
Captain Marvel
It’s
been teased in other Marvel events before, including the skrull
impostor in Secret Invasion, but it does look like Captain Marr-Vell
of the Kree will be making a return to the land of the living this
time, as the covers and solicits to the Secret Avengers tie-ins
reveal. Given the regular ressurections in comics nowadays, kudos to
Marvel for keeping him 6-feet-under for around 30 years now!
4)
Iron Man
Stark
is a very important part of the Avengers leadership, and certainly
does seem to be taking a front and centre lead in the upcoming movie,
which leads one to believe he would be playing a big role in the
event. Also, he has a fight with Magneto in the first issue. You
would want to see if and how Stark manages to survive in that
scenario.
3
) Scarlet Witch
To
say Wanda Maximoff has had a rough past 5 years in the Marvel
Universe would be an understatement. With her return in the pages of
Avengers : The Children’s Crusade, The Scarlet Witch
is being touted to be a central character in AvX. She is, in many
ways, the mirror image of Hope Summers, in the sense that she
decimated the mutant race while Hope is to be its saviour. Her exact
stand on the coming of the phoenix should be interesting.
2)
Wolverine
It
does look like we have another ‘Peter Parker in Civil War’
situation. As headmaster of the Jean Grey Institute and full time
Avenger, Wolverine has got to be the most likely player to switch
sides in the event. In addition to Wolverine himself, the loyalties
of his little black-ops assassin squad, X-Force, might actually turn
the tide in either of the camps favour.
1)
Captain America
It’s
pretty safe to expect a Civil War-esque role of sheer military
badassery from Cap this Marvel Summer. He has had a few setbacks
recently in his role as top cop, in the form of Fear Itself and the
ongoing Osborn saga, and he should be pretty keen to clean this next
threat up without too much loss. Cyclops has been a bit of a
d**che-bag of late and it’s time Cap puts him across his knee.
Give
us a shout with your opinions on the matter downstairs in the
comments and be sure to be here next week with the next edition of
this list giving you a low-down on the other camp.
PS
: On an unrelated topic, here’s the Avengers in the style of The
Powerpuff Girls!
