In
the past, there have been moments in Geek Culture that saw the world
take notice and stand in awe. In terms of pure excitement, the
release of The Phantom Menace was one. So was The Death of
Superman, which got unprecedented media coverage. The inclusion
of Watchmen into Time’s list of 100 best novels still makes
us proud. More recently, the Christopher Nolan Batman movies have
revolutionized the way Hollywood looks at Superheroes.
Unless
you’ve been off-planet for the last half decade or so, you are
aware of the upcoming The Avengers film, which hits Indian
Theatres on the 27th of April, as a culmination of the
four movies Marvel Studios has released so far.
A
Funny Thing Happened on the way to Thor’s Hammer, on the other
hand shows us the more awesome man of mystery side of Coulson, as he
foils a robbery at a gas station. Probably not very relevant to The
Avengers, but an excellent watch nevertheless.
Come
April, it appears we have potentially another such moment in our
hands.

Listed
here is most of the pre-release footage from and related to the film
currently available, for your nerdgasmic viewing pleasure.
The
Captain America : TFA post-credits Teaser
After
the credits of the last Marvel Studios movie Captain America : The
First Avenger, fanboys were treated to their first look at The
Avengers. Opening with Cap taking all his time displaced frustration
on a punching bag, the teaser goes on to shock and awe with a montage
involving all the characters in the film, and ending with, what else,
a Tony Stark quip.
Marvel
One-shots
Included
as bonus material with the Thor and Captain America : TFA
Blu-rays, the two Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson starrer One-shots
set to explore more of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general.
The
Consultant sought to explain the last scene of The Incredible
Hulk, where Tony Stark visits General Thunderbolt Ross. The clip
goes a long way in adding a connective tissue to the story so far,
and the dialogues and character interactions in the clip gives a
small taste of what to expect in the movie, what with Joss Whedon
helming and all.
Theatrical
trailer #1
The
first theatrical trailer opens with a few big explosions, and then
moves into character interaction territory. The agenda is simple :
With this trailer, Marvel sought to put out word of their long term
plan finally having succeeded, and that this movie was indeed, in
every sense of the word, happening. The trailer’s been discussed
before here(link to
http://www.comicaddicts.com/2011/10/notes-and-screengrabs-from-avengers.html),
but I kid you not, no amount of repeated viewings cease to make me
excited for this film. Not too much of the story was revealed, with
the approach being to generally showcase all the characters and their
relationships.
The
Russian Trailer
Not
too different from the first English trailer, this one includes a
montage involving Tony Stark listing all the members of the team,
which should be fun to watch in English. Also, this might just be the
closest we ever get to a truly Russian Black Widow.
The
Extended Superbowl TV Spot
Next
line is the superbowl commercial, which surprisingly brought us
plenty of new amazing footage, including our first real full-blown
look at Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, first look at the aliens constituting
Loki’s army, The Hulk catching Iron Man scene and the uber cool
shot of the Avengers standing with their backs to each other
preparing for battle.
Theatrical
Trailer #2
Recycling
some footage from the Superbowl spot and adding plenty more
awesomeness, the second trailer includes a lot more dialogue, further
cementing expectations of Whedontalk at its best being on full
display in the film. The aliens get teased once again, this time in
flying vehicles, there’s a few shots of the big three battling it
out in a forest, and, towards the end, we get our first look at the
rumoured Leviathan monster.
German
Trailer
Once
again not differing too much from the English trailers, this one
includes a couple more scenes showcasing Tony Stark being Tony Stark,
which have been translated below.
Scene
with Cap at 0:58 :
Stark:…
And following orders
is
obviously not my style.
Rogers:
And everyone knows that style is all you care about.
Stark:
From all the people around here, who wears the most figure-hugging
outfit?
Towards
the end with Banner and Cap :
Stark:
I promise a stress-free environment. No surprises. (zaps Bruce)
Banner:
Ow!
Rogers:
Hey!
Stark:
You really got it under control, don’t you. What’s your secret?
Relaxing Jazz, bongo drums?
Rogers:
Is everything a joke to you?
Stark:
If it’s funny!
The
Japan Trailer
The
Japan trailer, partly in English, surprisingly included plenty of
erstwhile unseen footage. It opens with the aliens coming out of some
kind of portal, which fuels the aliens being from the Negative Zone
theory. Pepper Potts shows up, finally confirming her presence in the
film, Hawkeye and Maria Hill finally talk, we get a first (read :
awesome) look at the SHIELD Hellicarrier taking flight along with
plenty ofbrand-new action sots.
