Experiencing Comics

Comics are great aren't they? They're artwork combined with riviting storylines and there seems to be practically an endless supply. Granted some experiments have been made that haven't ended well.

Have you ever wanted to get more from comics?

It's ok to admit it. Comics are so great that we as fans try to experience them as much as we possibly can. As fans we try to put ourselves into the worlds alongside our favorite heroes battling our favorite villains. It a nice break and mental vacation from our every day lives. Are we wrong?

If that wasn't the case there would be no movies, video games, cosplay, comic shows, amusement park rides, or TV shows. It's as close as we're ever going to get to being apart of that world. So let's take a closer look at these mediums and see what we can derive from them.

Movies are great, but there are a lot of factors that go into whether it'll be good or not. Things like; who the actors are, who's directing, who's writing the script, whether they're comic fans, how much they change characters and story, and the list really goes on. We get teased with pictures here and there as they come out, but ultimately it's not until after we've seen it on the big screen that all of those things become clear. Still, it is thrilling to see a 2D character leap of the pages and suddenly be a real person for a couple of hours.

Video games are great because you actually get to play as your favorite character. Course it also depends on the gaming system, programming, and controls as to how well you're able to enjoy being your favorite character. In all honesty, as far as game play goes, willing to be Spidey has whacked into and fallen off more buildings than he truly wants to think about.

Comic shows and cosplay are great because you get to dress up, be surrounded by comics, chat with fellow geeks face to face, and for just a few hours pretend you truly are your favorite hero. It's like Halloween, but specifically for comic geeks. Plus you also get to take pictures of other like minded geeks in their costumes.
TV shows are good in that it's ongoing. You tune in each week to get another chapter of comic book adventure. The biggest problem with TV is budget. A weekly TV show doesn't get as much money to spend as a big screen blockbuster. So the effects are a bit shoddy unless it's animated. Of course, who doesn't like cartoons?

Amusement park rides give us the temporay excitement of flying or adventure. While it's not truly experiencing what it's like to be a hero it is at least a sample. In any case superhero themed rides are usually rollarcoaster thrill rides so the adrenaline does flow.
What is your favorite way to experience comics?
