One of the great things about being a geek is that it is very easy to draw parallels between our various interests. Having said that there is quite a bit of buzz about two upcoming films. The first is The Avengers and the other is The Hobbit. Having said that we here at Comic Addicts got to thinking how many similarities there were between the characters of The Avengers and the well known group from The Fellowship of the Ring. It's was actually quite stunning. In fact, we gave the Fellowship an Avenger identity based on the personality they matched best. Here is what we came up with:
Gandalf is Nick Fury. Why? Gandalf hand picked his team and brought them together for a specific mission. He knew the skills of each and ever member. Ultimately everyone in the Fellowship follow Gandalf's lead.

Frodo is Captain America. Why? He's a small town kid who desperately wants to do good. He wants to make a difference and get a taste of adventure. He's niave and inexperienced, but possess a heart bigger than his size. He is also willing to sacrifice himself for the overall good of the team. He even becomes a point of inspiration as the journey goes on.

Aragorn is Thor. Why? He is a fallen heir to a great throne. He has amazing skills and was very well trained. He can be cocky at times and must remind himself of humility. He feels responsible for the fate of his teammates and hates to lose anyone in battle. Although speaking of battle, he does enjoy a good rumble.
Legolas is Hawkeye. Why? The obvious is because of the archer connection. However, he is the mostly silent member who steps up when things get hairy. Even though you don't hear much out of him aside from a concern or witty insult he is the one you want to have your back.
Gimli is Iron Man. Why? He loves a good rumble and always figures his skills are superior to those around him and especially to his adversaries. He also is very fond of weapons and believes that the choice of weapon defines the man. He also has little faith in a small town boy being able to accomplish anything of greatness.
Boromir is Black Widow. Why? It's hard to tell who's side he's on. One minute he'll have your back, but the next seem like he has his own secretive motives. With him it's hard to say definitely who's side he's truly on.

Sam Wise is Wasp. Why? He's completely devoted to Frodo/Cap and despite his small size packs quite the punch. He may not win every fight, but he will give the enemy something to remember. There is also the constant pestering and abuse he takes from Mary and Pippen.

Mary and Pipen together make Giant Man. Why? The two of them together talk big, but can't back up any of their boasts. They also have been known to stand on each others shoulders to give them a better vantage during battles. They also pester and abuse Sam Wise/Wasp for being so doting toward Frodo/Cap. It has also been a characteristic of theirs to get into trouble way over their heads.
Gollum is Hulk. Why? There is a most definite split personality going on there. When Smeigel/Banner is the dominate personality everything is happy and helpful. However, when Gollum/Hulk is out no one is safe. He also seems to get stronger when his anger really comes to a boil. Not to mention the one track mind set.
